2009 WSK ROUND 4 GENK

GOOD BALANCE IN KZ2 AND KF2, WHERE THE YOUNG ROSSLER , OF THE ITALSPORT KRP TEAM, SHINES

In spite of the 'lottery' caused by the rain fallen on Sunday morning, Birel colors shine in KZ" with Laudato and Mich, 2nd and 3rd, as well as in KF2 with the 2nd placement of Rossler

Genk (Belgium) - WSK circus closed also the 4th seasonal appointment run on the Belgian track of Genk (Belgium), where Birel pilots had been protagonists in all the classes: KF3, KF2 and KZ2. Absent only the main class, SFK, the scepter passed to KZ2 that for the occasion, seen pilots like Sauro Cesetti and Antonio Piccioni (RK team), Ardigò, Forè, Kozlinski and Catt running. The competition weekend had been influenced by the rain fallen on Saturday morning which made the results unforeseeable.

In KZ2 qualification seen Lammers as leader, made the pole while Birel pilots suffered the slippery track working hard to find their best set up. The best Birel man was Sauro Cesetti with his 13th position while Laudato and Mich reached only a place after the 15th. At the end of qualifications the balance for Birel pilots improved and during the finals they were all able to gain a placement in the high zone of the ranking. But then the rain come and spoiled the competition. Cesetti was very fast and conquered the 3rd place soon after Lammers and Ardigò, while Mich and Laudato ended in 8th and 9th placement after the couple Forè-Kozlinski. In Final the track was still humid and slick tires had been used. These bad track condition led the race leader Lammers to a fatal error and ended at 19th place. The same happened to Sauro Cesetti who was running for the 2nd position. However he gained the 4th place after his mates Laudato and Mich. The leader of the race was Marco Ardigò who won after Laudato, Mich and Cesetti. At 5th placement there is Renaudie, then Forè, Puhakka and Bressan. With two pilots on the podium and Cesetti at the 4th place, Birel obtained a good balance and now they can look over the rest of the season with optimism and aim to the victory. In the championship ranking Lammers leads the chart with 85 points, while Laudato is now at the 4th place after his team mate Mich.

Also KF2 saw the rain falling down after the Pre-Final and amongst the Birel pilots a great Jesper Rossler (Birel-Iame). The Italsport KRP team pilot made the 8th time in qualification with only 123 thousandths of a second from the poleman Tiene. But then he was unlucky and lost two races for some technical problems. So after the victory in the last race and a 8th placement in the second round, he had to make a recovery race to access to the Pre-Final where he obtained a great 8th place. But his masterpiece arrived during the Final. When the track dried he expressed himself at high levels and gained the 2nd place after the winner Cooper and improved of 5 tenths of a second Moller Madsen's time. Great weekend also for the other Birel pilots with Hauke (KSB team) at 7th place, 10th in Pre-Final and 12th in Final while unlucky for Basz (RK team) and Viganò (MGM team); the first one had some technical problems and missed the Final while Viganò, after some difficult qualifications, had a problem with the engine in Race 1 and an accident in the second Final, leaving Belgium without a point. In the general ranking, the leaderships is now of Cooper (155 points).

In KF3 the young Riccardo Agostino, after his 10th place in qualification and 4th position at the Pre-Final beginning, proved to deserve the podium. But then the rain twisted all the forecasts, causing a lot of accidents which revolutionized the ranking but, above all, forced the young pilot to retire after only six laps. Unfortunately, starting from the end of the lining up, also during the Final he had been crashed by Sainz during the very first lap. Then Agostini made up some positions till the 20th and making the 3rd best time in race. In the end he left Belgium very embittered because the zero signed in the championship does not reflect his real potential. A lot better for Welsh who, after ending the Pre-Final at the 25th place due to some contacts, in Final went up till the 8th placement showing some great levels. Great performances also for Detmers (KSB team) who suffered for two leavings the track that avoided him to obtain a better placement and gain points for the championship.

Next appointment with WSK will be at Salbris, France, the weekend of the 26th of June when KZ2, KF2 and KF3 classes will be back on track.
