MUNKHOLM / BIREL DOMINATE THE KF2 RACE:
The Racing Motor DK (Birel-Iame) driver wins the KF2 title despite a problem in the Pre-Final that seemed to have put him out of the race
Thy - for the Scandinavian countries that have always put highly talented drivers on the International scene, the Viking Trophy is a very prestigious title that is awarded in a single CIK-FIA trial. The 2009 edition of this important race took place at Thy in Denmark with an extremely high performance on the part of the Birel Racing Motor team with an historic one-two win in the KF2. The title went to Kevin Munkholm (Birel-Iame), already a leading player in the category European Championship Selection race at Genk, who dominated the weekend. In fact, Munkholm dominated all of the qualifying heats winning the pole for the Pre-Final, but unfortunately, at the beginning of the race he had a spark-plug problem and wasn't able to take the start. His ambitions for the title victory seemed to be finished, but instead, even though he started in last place in the Final, he succeeded in climbing back up to lead the race, winning with 2" over his team-mate, Hansen. Munkholm's performance and the performance of his Birel RY 30 -S1 chassis was exceptional, the type that is rarely seen in an international event with so many qualified drivers at the starting line. To climb back up from last place, demonstrating such a clear superiority proves the talent of the young Racing Motor driver who, for the next European KF2 champion, has thus won a spot on the official Birel team. Patrick Hansen's performance (Birel-Iame) should also be highlighted; he closed in 2nd place ahead of Moller Madsen.
